It is believed that if you fold one in a year you will have good luck for the rest of your life.

Ha ha, paper cranes! If you were REAL cranes, you could fly out of this window! But your wings are made out of paper! You hear that, tree pulp? You're STUCK ON A STRING!!

Well, if they were real cranes strung up like that I don't imagine that they would be in real great shape either.
They would also probably smell pretty bad in short order, so maybe if they were real cranes they would get out the window after all...
